Oasis Diagnostics® Corporation offers an assay with comprehensive evaluation for susceptibility to gluten, the CeliacStrip Assay. Gluten sensitivity is to some extent genetically predetermined. Its hereditary nature is manifested via an increase in prevalence amongst family members (10-15%) and a concordance of 80% between homozygous twins.
90-95% of celiac patients are positives for the HLA-DQ2 haplotype.
Among 5 and 10% are for the HLA-DQ8, however these alone will not trigger the onset of celiac disease.
- Kits are based on reverse-hybridization of PCR products.
- All PCR reagents are included in the kit: Taq polymerase, primers and Master Mix.
- Several kinds of methods have been validated for DNA extraction: silica gel, silica columns, using FTA filter paper, etc.
- Strips show haplotypes by enzymatic color reaction visible to the naked eye.
- Minimal equipment required (thermal cycler).
- Automated protocols available for Auto-LiPA / Profiblot and AUTOBLOT instruments.
